39th: The Recreation of Haruhi Suzumiya

[It's been sort of a long path, but Haruhi Suzumiya has a... something. She's still hesitating around the word "boyfriend," but someone she is seeing in something sort of resembling a romantic capacity (SSISISSORARC). They were "test running" in October, she was avoiding him in November, and in December, they've been taking it slow. Hanging out more, going out to places, having some meals together...

And now, well, Haruhi decides she wants to mix it up some. So in the morning today she does her usual "throw rocks at Minato's window until he comes outs" and then he's dragged along out into the forest with an ax and ordered the chop down a Christmas tree for her house. She's not really done this weird Western custom all that much before, it it sounded fun to try out this year, particularly with a SSISISSORARC to chop down the tree, lug it to house ten, and then prop it up inside before they go out to collect things to put on it, and finally, decorate with.

Honestly, this might seem like slave labor, but the indicative thing about it is that this happens on a Sunday. She called Winry to apologize and say they should hang out more in the next week but she's cancelling on "their" day a few days before, but didn't give Minato notice about this. If he realizes what she's implying or not is up in the air -the meaning is pretty elusive.

This is a joint post with Minato (emp3thy), and you can run into them many places, but some examples are:
1) Going out into the forest in the morning to chop down the tree... and the time Minato needs to spend chopping when they find it.
2) Coming back with the tree in the later morning and bringing it to House 10
3) Collecting decorations for the tree from the item shop around mid-day and bringing them back to House 10
4) Decorating the tree in the early afternoon at House 10 (this one is prob just for House 10)
5) Going out to a late lunch after skipping two meals aside from snacks after that, at Seventh Heaven and lamenting the variety of places to go for this

[Minato is a pace or two ahead and to the side of Haruhi, so he misses stepping on or noticing Ilyana as they pass. But Haruhi stopping mid-talking does get his attention. He turns and, seeing this situation only about to get worse, intervenes. With a swift motion, he picks Haruhi up bodily and moves her a foot or two backwards away from the poor fallen girl.]

Are you okay? [to the girl; he's not even going to bother trying to reprimand Haruhi. He's expecting her to change kicking targets to him after that move but it's better than her giving an innocent person a concussion.]

[ilyana]

I'm sorry... I didn't mean to startle you...

[Ilyana's still down on the ground, not really moving much.]

Oh come on, she grabbed me, you jerk!

[She's squirming in his arms. Jerk jerkjerkk]

[He lets go, but only after it's clear she's not going to attack the girl.] Looks like you stepped on her.

[judging by the bootprint on the back of her clothes, anyway...]

[ilyana]

[She's slowly trying to sit up now, but she's clearly still very dizzy.]

I'm sorry... I must have passed out on my way to the... oh...

[She's leaning against the restaurant wall now.]

This... this happens a lot.

What, are you high or something? Jeez, get it together! [And in fact, to prove a point, she pokes the anemic(? she assumes) girl in the chest]

[Haruhi....

Minato kneels down and offers the girl a hand to help her up.]

Where are you headed? We can walk you there. [Or... to the clinic. That might be better.]

[ilyana]

Sorry... I'm just... hungry.

[Ilyana sighs brushing herself off a bit more.]

When I don't eat enough I pass out... I was on my way to the restaurant, but that's when I passed out.

[...Are you ignoring her. You're ignoring her, aren't you? She crosses her arms, fuming irrationally too much as she steps back]

[hey he said WE can walk her there...]

Then let's go inside. We were headed there, too.

[ilyana]

Are you sure? ... I don't want to be a bother, especially if you two were on a date or something...

And... I am sorry about grabbing hold of your leg earlier miss.

[Ilyana seemed to not really have taken the fact that she'd been stepped on before that all too seriously. It happened often enough that it almost didn't phase her anymore, and that hadn't been why she'd grabbed Haruhi's leg.]

It's not a date! [And with that, she throws her arms up in the air and despite being the shortest (or at least one of the smallest 5'2) people here, she probably seems much bigger than she is as she shoves open the doors and storms into Seventh Heaven]

[...way to go for the most cliche line, Haruhi. But maybe that was her point. ...Either way, he continues to offer his hand to Ilyana.]

Come on.

[ilyana]

Did I... say something out of line?

[She follows them inside, obviously trying to be cautious of invoking Haruhi's wrath again]

[He shakes his head, holding the door for her as they step inside.]

You said something right.

[ilyana]

[Well now she really feels guilty being another girl along on her date.]

So I was right?

[Ilyana says this in a hushed whisper to him to try and keep from letting her worry show to Haruhi, in case she should leave without it seeming obvious that his words provoked it.]

[Haruhi isn't even watching them, she doesn't even care. She didn't get a table, instead impatiently standing at the counter waiting to hijack a server as they come out, probably to take out her annoyance on them.]

[Even if she doesn't say it, Minato can tell what Ilyana is thinking from her expression and tone.]

It's all right.

[They'd been together all day already, so it's not as though it's a huge inconvenience. Minato makes sure Ilyana finds a seat before he goes to deal with Haruhi and the servers, though.] Will you be okay from here?

[ilyana]

[Ilyana nods taking one of the complimentary loaves of bread and starts munching away.]

I'll be fine now... you two go have fun okay? Sorry to have interrupted.

[She couldn't help but be a bit of a romantic, so she didn't like the idea of intruding even if it wasn't an 'official' date.]

[Yes. The shouting shall begin soon. She has found a target- she is going in for a kill]

Don't worry about--

[This is interrupted by Haruhi being Haruhi. Minato sighs inwardly and with an apologetic glance at Ilyana, steps over to tap Haruhi on the shoulder.]

Hey. They didn't do anything to you.

[ilyana]

[Don't mind her, she's just going to watch this with mild interest as she munches down a croissant.]

[And it's not long before a waiter shows up, smiling as he produces his small notepad from his pocket and seemingly completely oblivious to the impending drama.

Or maybe that's why he decided to come over right now.]
