48th: The Officiousness of Haruhi Suzumiya

[Action ]

[ Kyon went home. Kyon went home and the world didn't even notice. Which in some ways is not surprising - he went home just as they were going to Malnosso World. Oh sure the Brigade in Luceti probably noticed as the (increasingly infrequent or at least shorter due to the small size) meetings had him absent where he never really was before but for the most part? Who cared?

Well, Haruhi did.

And because of Haruhi caring around that, she threw herself hard into studying again. In Malnosso World she could work on making progress with her Extended Brigade but in the first week back she signed up for all sorts of missions to not get accepted to any. And so... she studied. Magic, technology, history, cryptoids, anything she could do apart from people because she didn't want to deal with people. Which is why apart from jogging in the morning, going to the Brigade HQ for meetings, and going home at night (maybe a snack between) much of Haruhi's time was in the library and she looks increasingly frumpy. As in she hasn't slept great and her hair has been better. You can encounter her doing this, or you might encounter her practicing some sigils, or meditating for spirits as the weeks drag on... but eventually:]

A lot of people have shown themselves to be sort of stupid here before now, but does anyone have some interesting facts or stories to tell me? I want to know more about whatever you want to tell me about. And if you don't, someone come to the HQ and help me test out some things. I've been working on some spells or ways to work with the Filial Spirits. So come on, Luceti.

Are you bottomless?

[Or it all just flies over her head but it doesn't seem the case.]

Do you have any questions about what I've told you so far?

His real body or the vessel he used?

Hades was a very vain being, though you may figure that out by seeing how he only considered himself and two gods who worked under him as worthy of being in Elysium. He didn't want his body to be hurt, so he used a human vessel whenever he went to battle. That also meant that killing the vessel didn't serve to stop him for long by itself, he hided his real body deep in Elysium, where it was safe.

[Until they barged in, achieved the eighth sense, went through barriers that they shouldn't have been able to cross and impaled him with Athena's staff. Of course.]

His real body was pretty normal, he looked like any human, a very handsome and perfect one, I suppose. I'm not really a beauty critic. The most impacting traits in him were his eyes, for someone so cruel, vain and selfish his eyes were very clear and sad. Just by them one would have thought he would be a pure soul or something like that. He had long black hair, one of the darkest shades I've ever seen, even here, blue eyes and a very white skin. And, of course, he looked as if he had never even lifted a spoon to feed himself because others did that for him.

Just like any god. I don't know all of the powers he had, but some of his powers included possession, to make use of vessels, and being able to produce an eternal eclipse. Which was how he tried to destroy all the live on Earth.

For starters to expand his domain, with everything over Earth dead it would become just an extension of the Underworld and he would have every soul under his control except for those of other gods. There is also the fact that he thought that humans didn't deserve to live, that they were hideous creatures that corrupted and ruined the world, disrespecting the gods by forgetting them and what not. And probably just because he could do it.

Poseidon thought that humanity was like a plague, that humans had forgotten themselves and proved to be unable to take care of the world. He wanted to do a "spring cleaning", like the one Christians talk about in the Bible. He sent the raging oceans to drown the world, together with a constant and heavy rain, in the span of a few days thousands of humans died and whole cities vanished. He didn't care about destroying all humans, but most of them while leaving the survivors with the lesson of what happens when they don't behave so he could start the world anew basically.

Zeus vanished centuries ago, long before the end of the age of myth. He went on a journey without telling anyone where he was going or why and left his daughter Athena in charge of his domains, with the duty of protecting the Earth from evil and from any attempts from other gods that tried to claim it for themselves.

I think there was a war with Aphrodite once, but it was probably back there in the age of myth, shortly after Zeus left and when Athena's order of Saints was being formed. I heard that the reason why female Saints have to wear masks is because Athena didn't want them to be mistaken for Aphrodite's Amazons during that war. After she was defeated, Aphrodite retired and didn't push for any other war as far as I know.

Why are there so many man wars?

[The answer is pretty much the same, probably.]

No, they go to war to wipe out their own species, just different races, cultures or religions. At least in my world.

[Maybe she comes from a magical utopian world where wars don't happen.]

Not all gods go to war to wipe out humans, either, Hades being the exception. Many of Poseidon's attacks were initially just to claim the land as his domain as well. He was one of the first ones to go to war after Zeus left, probably not agreeing that Zeus left Athena out of all deities in charge of his domains.

Which deity would you have put in charge while Zeus was absent?

Poseidon would have submerged the land to claim it as his domain, Hades would have killed everything, humans, animals and plants. Most of the other gods would have probably used the Earth as a playground or ruled over it far more whimsically than Zeus himself, as well as try to become the rulers to overthrow him once he returned. Athena, however, loved humanity and had no desire to overthrow Zeus, neither wanted to use the Earth as her playground or her private harem. It was her or turn to other deities and from what I know Zeus wasn't a fan of collaborating with other deities that didn't belong to his pantheon, neither were other Greek deities.

Zeus is actually selective in his conquers. But Aphrodite would, Eros as well. Ares would part it in half, the men would do nothing but war while the women were his harem. Dionysus wouldn't have been any better. And who knows what Hera could have done after how Zeus cheated on her with humans.

I don't either, but there's a difference between choosing specific women and not giving a damn about who he brings to bed. I agree, though, even before marriage, if you love someone you love them. Not them and a thousand others in the same way.
