Appointments Post ( I )

This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Haruhi anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

He's been seen in person before. During that Earthquake... I didn't see him personally but from a distance, but there've been people who have spoke with him in person.

[That's interesting.]

Do you know who they are?

Offhand, I'm going to have to assume Raine Sage. Other than her, anyone's guess.

[She smiles a bit.]

I assume you are correct. I've found Raine to be extremely knowledgeable.

Obviously, but more importantly she's one of the go-to medical people who was around back then, and if it was during that, I bet he was injured.

[An intelligent line of reasoning; her respect for Haruhi rises.]

Then I will most certainly speak with her again.

When precisely did this earthquake occur?

[~~and ironically she's right other than Emil being there~~ But. ]

Early August of last year. Started on... the fourth or the fifth. [A beat] By "last year" I mean two Augusts ago. So not the one which happened seven months ago but the one that happened nineteen months ago.

Then it seems I barely missed him--I arrived here that September.

[...Hmm. That was some time ago.] And that was his most recent appearance?

Directly, yeah.

It seems odd that there has been such a long period of silence from him.

Not at all. Like I said, he's a shut in and would prefer intermediaries. Jacob, [And she lists this off on her finger] Rem, that Catherine fellow is the most recent one. Unless you want to gun on a conspiracy that he's dead - and penalty removals contradict that - he's just being an ass.

[That evaluation actually earns a brief smile from her.]

Given what I have experienced of the Malnosso, I would have to agree with your conclusion.

...Who is "Jacob"? I did not see him mentioned in the guide.

[...Oh jeez. They're having this whole conversation in the street, and here she sighs to go over to a bench and sit. If they're going to keep talking they might as well sit] Jacob was the original - the first traitor to the Organization who contacted up, the first one we saw in person, the first one who helped us. Back then, the Organization had some sort of stupid secretary who ran the PA system. They used to taunt us on the journals - things like calling us mice or whatever. More vindictive.

[A beat... she shakes her head] Jacob... wasn't much nicer. He cursed a lot. But he thought the position we were in was unjust. John just wants to figure out the world as a whole, and I think that's been where Rem and Catherine came from true, but he pitied us. Worked with John to that effort... eventually, though, he was killed. [...] By the Third Party, I mean. Do you know how the "sacrifice" works?

[Grune listens as she follows Haruhi to the bench. It seems it was extremely fortunate she encountered her here.

At her question, she replies:] I know only that it is something that the Third Party wishes to carry out, nothing more.

[But she is extremely interested in filling in that hole in her knowledge.]

Ah. [A bit more somberly] Well it's a way to kill someone for good. We don't know all the details, but if I had to guess based on what we do, it stops people from existing at all.

[She goes very quiet and still. Schwartz has that power--she has the power to make entire worlds never exist--and in theory, she does as well. But for mortals to have the power...it is wrong. It is far too great of a responsibility to be borne.]

...That is a power that belongs to the gods. They should not be making use of it.

Gods? Really? I never pegged you for that.

[...It does make her wonder, though, if she could do that. Make someone never exist. Probably. Bu she shakes her head, not dwelling on it.]

In any case, Jacob was sacrificed around the same time the Third Party invaded this barrier for the first and only time.

[She ignores Haruhi's first comment in favour of focusing on the second.]

Approximately how far apart did these two incidents occur?

A week... a little more. Eight or nine days.

It almost seems as though that period of time were the culmination of a larger campaign, or at least the completion of a phase in it.

Of course it was, their General was there. Not to mention John let them in.

[Now that catches her by surprise.]

I was under the impression John is an ally. Is that incorrect?

He is. [...itching the back of her head] He's just the furthest thing from nice. The Third Party was outside the barrier. After what I hope was some sort of Organization-based resistance they got their numbers lowered to three hundred or so elite troops and the General. John set up a Shift that brought all of us back to full power and reduced theirs somewhat too which would last 48 hours. Then, well, let them in.

[She never thought she would think this, but Grune can probably make at least one of the two important points this informs]

[Grune considers the implications of what Haruhi has told her for a time.

Then:] I suppose some might say that is an indication that John has faith in us.

[She smiles slightly.] And others would say that he is aware of our usefulness.

[Still, either way one chooses to look at the situation, a certain degree of trust on his part is involved. That, at least, cannot be denied.]
