[...Okay, she can do this. She's normal, finally (or so she'd like to convince herself) and because of that it's time to get to business.]

...Okay, Brigade, if you didn't get the memo yet we've lost a lot of members- including Naoki and Yoohoo, among others. [Her voice dips. But then there's a slapping sound and she presses on, her tone getting brighter] But that's beside the point! New feathers, there's a lot of you guys now, and old feathers too, some of you guys must want some excitement in your life, right?! Ever feel that budding sense of your existence here being meaningless?! Well, think no further, because for a short time only the SOS-Brigade is accepting applications for new members to our illustrious ranks!

But some of you might think "Wow I'm lame and have been living under a rock and/or haven't read the guide, what is this completely amazing sounding organization," right? Since you asked, I'll answer free of charge!

The Spreading Excitement All Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade - SOS-Brigade for short - is the greatest organization ever invented. We're dedicated to finding and solving all the mysteries of this world, thus ensuring that everyone in it can lead a fun and worthwhile life! It's like a form of enlightenment! So basically, people who have experienced something mysterious in the past, have experienced something mysterious recently, or who plan on a mysterious experience in the near future should come to the SOS Brigade for them be solved.

But besides that, we have ensure that people have fun! We have big plans for the coming months! It's Spring, and while we obviously won't get Golden Week, there's always time and need for another Hanami or for contests, attractions, fireworks once we get summer, the beach, the lake, you name it, we're on it! You should fully expect your life to be influenced by our might in the near future! I hope your bodies are ready for it!

So there you have it! And, like I said, we're accepting applications! So hurry up and speak up so that I, Haruhi Suzumiya, can process you and determine if you have the right stuff!

[Buuut, once that announcement is made in ther break time for school at about 10:30 AM (and thus replies might be later in the day) Haruhi has places to be. She's being low-key about it, but it is White Day, after all. So, during her lunch break at school she sets off- she had her Winry Day yesterday, but she owes Winry something in return. Thus, with a bag over her shoulder around 12:30PM she's made her way to Winry's house to knock.

From there, back to school, finishing it up, the Brigade meeting... and then loitering around town is her MO for the afternoon. She got chocolate for all of the guys in the Brigade (plus Neku and maybe some others) after all, and even she's not voicing it she expects things back from there. ...And Minato. And Keiichi. But she's not going to press the issue there because even she's not sure she wants them. But if you see her lurking around the square in the afternoon that's why.]

Dat- Well! ...A little like that, more like a time we put aside to hang out if- in case neither of us has time during the week. [Fumbling on her words. She sighs and starts to play with the little plaque on her desk which says "CHIEF," choosing her next words carefully]

[ she bites back a regular like church quip because it seems crass and a poor attempt to link back to how haruhi called herself god within these walls. she does it more for winry's sake than haruhi's. ]

Well duh, I mean we're- [...What are they? There's a distinct trip up here before she finishes, lamely with-] friends.

[ and the only clockworkishly scheduled meet-ups she has with friends are the meetings. but...hmm.

she's suppressed so much this conversation that finally something is off her tongue before she can stop it: ] It's okay to say you're more than that, you know. If you are -- I mean, Winry said...[ what had she said? well, there was the sister thing. but that was still a little weird. ]

[Her body goes a little rigid, and her eyes lock on that nice little spot a bit to the left of Buffy's face. What- so she knows. Um. What to say. A blush grows more distinct on her face]

[ so she should shut up. clearly that is the best course of action...only it's never been a course that buffy was particularly good at so she tucks some stray hair awkwardly behind her left ear -- why is haruhi staring at that space, anyway? ]

I don't want to see her hurt -- [ but that sounds confrontational and buffy doesn't want haruhi to get the wrong implication: ] And I'm assuming the same goes for you, friends or...or more than friends.

[...Does he know? Of course she doesn't know, there's no way Winry would have told anyone about what happened to her on Valentines. There's no way a girl like Winry would betray her trust to this stupid blonde bimbo. Haruhi sighs and collapses her face into the desk, glaring at nothing in particular from her new position but trying hard to relax. Her bring yellow wings flutter a little - the only movement out of her for a while. And then, lamely, she begins to speak]

...No shit. What do you even know?

Fine. Tell yourself I don't know a thing about being around this block. Does that make it easier?

[ this is said quietly and without the kind of self-criticism that normally accompanies these kinds of admissions. buffy has managed to find an okay place in the aftermath of horrors...it helps her be at least a measure of patient. but she looks back over her shoulder at the doorway -- perhaps she should just leave. ]

Shut up.

[And now she stands up behind the desk. Her voice is pained and her eyes are livid. Don't you even dare-]

What- you've loved Winry before?! You've been told that you met someone you love as the opposite gender before? You've been told the girl you've been dating and broke up with but are still kissing is going to be married to some stupid short jerkoff in a few years, and what's more she wants to be?! Shut up- you don't even have a clue! Like you've-

[But she finishes, gritting her teeth. No. No. Even if Winry thought it was prudent to tell Buffy about what happened to her on Valentines - a fact Haruhi is hoping is not true with every fiber of her being - she is not going to give her the satisfaction of telling her herself. Balling her hands into fists, she just stands here, defiant]

Heartache and tough decisions are still heartache and tough decisions, no matter what colour the wrapping paper is.

[ she could bring up the future-issue of satsu. or the clump of awkwardness that is spike. or how she already talked to winry about the marriage prediction but...what could she even offer the girl other than evidence that hard things stay hard and apparently almost all of it ends with being left behind and watching someone choose to walk away from you.

buffy gives a shallow shrug of her shoulders. ] All those misgivings? You already answered them. [ haruhi had used the l-word twice, after all. despite her hard-line emotional armour, buffy is a big time sucker for the did it for love argument.

but she is walking back to the door. ]

[...She hangs her head as the bluster fades from Buffy's words. What even- ]

...I'm not your student or something, to be graded on a chart.

[But this is meek. It's said quietly, not even meant to really carry so much as get out a last word]

No. You're not. Not even a bit. [ because if you were one of her girls she would have kicked you butt half-way to july 4th for coaxing kisses from a friend without giving her a stable label for what was going on. it would be hard to believe, but she's been relatively easy on haruhi.

though not necessarily for haruhi's benefit. no -- this is clearly (to anyone observing with a clear mind) more about winry. ]

Good. [There's a distinct pause here. She dislikes - deeply, deeply dislikes - this woman in front of her, but she doesn't want to let it end with her having gotten an upper hand such as seems to be the case here. Haruhi inhales lightly and then throws out in an equally low tone-]

She won't get hurt.

[ her parting words are simple (although fraught with a misunderstanding of the situation): ] Just...try and let her know who she is to you, okay? No one likes being in limbo. [ said the woman who has kept more men there than she cares to admit.

she does not intend it like a last word shot over the bow, but this time she exercises that stiff summers backbone and walks out with the door shutting quietly behind her. ]
