godbent | 18th: The Canvas of Haruhi Suzumiya

[This pot takes place mostly in (the lobby, lounge room, pub maybe) or around the LucetiLand hotel.

So... the draft began on the 25th. It's been nerve wrecking for all parties, Haruhi included, so she opted to commit to an agreement her and Winry made before the summer and she was recently reminded of - body painting her girlfriend. She was also allowed to put her on display. She's been working on that for some time now, the better part of this week in particular to re-practice.

And today is the day she showcases! But in a smaller area. Not the town proper, not the park probably, just inside and just outside the hotel. Haruhi's smartly dressed and smiling broadly, Winry has on her own pants and such, but in place of a shirt is something you might imagine to be a little like this (slightly nsfw?), albeit with a shirt Winry would actually wear. More obvious close up, not that obvious from a distance. (also in Winry's case there's a little something covering her nipples to stop them from protruding or anything as part of Haruhi's vaunted sense of "decency").

They'll be around here most of the afternoon - talking to people who walk up, maybe playing a simple game (Haruhi brought cards to play with Winry what she did at the casino) maybe chatting up people if there's no bites. Later in the day - more like the evening - once all washed off you might also find them in the indoor pool or spa.

When you're here for over two years it can get a little like that.

Exactly. How long have you been here?

[Yeah. Just - staying out of this one for a while.]

Seven months, approximately. I was... f-first indicted on the twenty-first of January...

[Seven months of constant exposure has at least made Luceti easier to deal with.]

... That being said, it is... c-certainly not as long as others here. So perhaps I have... to be here longer, to be inured to it.

I think a curious person could be here a long time and not get bored.

[Well, Robert certainly qualifies as a curious person.]

There is... so much I would like to understand...

And I know a curious person would need to actively seek out things to not be bored. Shut up.

[Sigh, Haruhi.]

[That's it. Lines have been crossed.]

[Robert flinches at Haruhi's words. She didn't have to be mean about it, did she?

He doesn't offer any kind of resistance, though. But it seems like Don is going to do that instead.]

I said shut up. It's a pretty simple statement, isn't it? The fact of the matter is once you've been here two years you get past the "oh experiment" and "oh culture shock" and "oh look there's a big green man or a blue monkey" or things like that. Sure, you can dig into the technicalities, but most of those are either personal or irrelevant.

[With a little huff.]

Haruhi. [She puts a hand on the other girl's shoulder, and holds it with a firm grip. Normally she'd let the brunette mouth off a bit and let the other person say their piece, but Robert... Well let's just say compared to Haruhi, Winry is quite docile and that boy is barely able to handle the mechanic.]

Back off a little.

[Don settles somewhat when Winry intervenes, but there's now no doubt in his mind that he doesn't like Haruhi. He sets his mouth in a line and doesn't say anything.]

[Robert honestly wonders where this sudden-seeming upset came from to begin with. The direction this went - and so rapidly, too - threw him off, and now he's some mixture of uncomfortable and irritated on Don's behalf.

Still, two years in Luceti. He hasn't even been in it one, yet. And Haruhi's entitled to feel that Luceti is mundane, if she wants to - he just doesn't see how it couldn't be fascinating somehow, to think of the implications. There are literally thousands of unanswered questions about the place - how can she not find that compelling?

There's now a very awkward silence.]

[..Sigh.]

Whatever.

[She doesn't really care about this that much anyway. Who cares what this guy thinks, she just was annoyed at the implication she's not curious]

The fact of the matter is that even in just two months someone is exposed to a lot. Now multiply that by twelve, and you have experienced so many things that it's highly possible for someone to become uninterested or even annoyed. You also must consider that what may be interesting to you may be mundane for others.

Consider television. To me it was an interesting piece of technology that I had never seen before. To Don and Haruhi? It was just something normal that existed in their world. The same can be said with other people and their different kinds of magic and science. Can we all at least agree on that?

Yes, but the nature of the place means that there's always something new to see. I would think most people would find at least some of it interesting.

[It's not that none of that makes sense to Robert - though he's still heavily skewed in terms of perspective, he at least has some knowledge of history now - but rather that, as Don noted, things are constantly changing.]

Luceti is not an... e-entirely static system. Though I will certainly concede that parts of it can be...

[Winry rubs her temples, a little aggravated.] Whatever! Coming here isn't even about all this.

[She so ready to argue, but Winry's comment takes her home. she just sighs and shrugs]

[... Right. Don glances around awkwardly, not sure what else to say.]
