31st: The Spells of Haruhi Suzumiya

[Voice / Action for the library]

[For the last 20some days, Haruhi Suzumiya has been obsessively studying. While she slowed down some after the Cultural Fair, it still was a very, very welcome distraction from thinking about how much she was hurt by that break up. Which is why she's been in and our of the library a lot. Finally though today she has decided to prop open the journal and ask for help.]

Hey, Luceti, does anyone recognize these?

[And she moves the journal to focus on:
* Helios's universe basic spellbook
* Basic Buffyverse spellbook (possibly this one or this one)
Lined up next to each other. these are the two she's had the most success with so far... she even more or less mastered one of the spells in the first one.]

Or these?

[And now it focuses on:
* Touhou Grimoire
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Western)
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Eastern)
Much less success here...]

Or this one? [She is much more unhappy sounding at this last book (a Greenhill Academy Rune textbook) because she's had basically no success even figuring out what it is talking about other than it apparently deals with mythology and magic... things.]

Or, I also found the "Writings of Aurelius" next to those first two ones, but I'm not sure if it's got spells in it or not... [it feels ominous, actually... so she figured it might, but- inside it just looks like a bunch of horoscope type things as well as just some weird old school notes]

I'm looking for people who know these books and are willing to tutor me in what's within them. I expect answers ASAP; that is all. [A pause] Also, Leon, since when do you write textbooks? [And then the camera focuses on a book written by Leon DS Geeste on Symbology]

[Anyone can, of course, question here about this post. Or the books. Or both]

[ Helios watches clearly intrigued and invested in Haruhi's spell casting. He'll move away a little when she finally conjures up that small shield. Helios will smile broadly when it starts to melt. ] That was...that was very good. H-Have you been practicing for long?
folklorist: (Oh is that right)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-08 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Three weeks...and you've made such progress so far. [ A broad smile. ] You're a rather fast learner. Have you made any progress with these other books?

[ He'll come closer then a hand running along the cover of one the books lying on the table. ]
folklorist: (Curiousity killed the cat you know?)

I think you're making outstanding progress while doing this by yourself. Most of the books in the one from my world are human based. I-I think there's some upper level spells in it, but it's mostly for younger studying magicians and witches.

[ He'll go over to it and flip it open. ] Once you get the hang of it you'll be able to have it last and encompass a wider range. The, ah, p-power dampening effect of this place makes it a bit harder though.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

Very true. But you seem to have a good grasp on it so far. [ His eyes will glow and then the area around them will drop a few degrees as a dome of ice appears around them. It'll crack a few seconds later and the water evaporates well before it hits any of the books or them.

Helios smiles. ]
With some more practice you should be able to do that eventually. But, well, small steps first. It might be easier to work near a body of water so that you can draw upon the base of the spell instead of having to use more energy to conjure it up.
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-08 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes it does. [ He'll hold out his good hand, palm up and a ball of water forms. ] A bit of both, really. You draw if from the air which is why it takes so much energy to do so. Air doesn't have nearly as much water as a an ocean. So that's why it takes a good deal more to use such a spell. Also because you're not as used to doing it and well as you said mechanics and the like. You could always try to combine filial magic too. But that's a bit more complicated.
folklorist: (Do go on I'm listening)

[ Helios chuckles a little at that. His smile fading slightly as he remembers something. ] I had a friend who...had trouble with her as well.
folklorist: (Rather a good listener)

Mm I do know a good few fire spells then. In my world there's offensive spells and defensive spells for each element. [ And then there's so illegal spells which are thankfully not mentioned in that book. ]

How are you with the other elemental spirits? Or have you not tried with them yet?

Practical applications, hm. Like using it to cook or keeping you warm during the winter? Easy enough when you have a good grasp on how to the control the fire produced. [ Nevermind his cooking explosion awhile back. ]

Mm no. Cloaking would fall under light, at least in my own world it does. Bending and manipulating the light so that it creates and illusion or makes the person or object invisible. There's other sorts of spells like that. Sigils mostly fall under the applicable everyday time of magic.
folklorist: (Ever so curious)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-13 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
All of those are sigil related magic, yes. Though there are some barrier spells which have been translated and formed into spoken incantations as well.
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. When mythica I believe it was...yetis who gave us the sigil for this spell. But back in the very old times when humans and mythica were first exchanging magic between one another sigils were a common ground between all races. And then came the introduction of spoken incantations that we have today.

Oh yes! All sorts of mythica have magic. Most human spells are made from the basis of mythica spells.
