godbent | 31st: The Spells of Haruhi Suzumiya

[Voice / Action for the library]

[For the last 20some days, Haruhi Suzumiya has been obsessively studying. While she slowed down some after the Cultural Fair, it still was a very, very welcome distraction from thinking about how much she was hurt by that break up. Which is why she's been in and our of the library a lot. Finally though today she has decided to prop open the journal and ask for help.]

Hey, Luceti, does anyone recognize these?

[And she moves the journal to focus on:
* Helios's universe basic spellbook
* Basic Buffyverse spellbook (possibly this one or this one)
Lined up next to each other. these are the two she's had the most success with so far... she even more or less mastered one of the spells in the first one.]

Or these?

[And now it focuses on:
* Touhou Grimoire
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Western)
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Eastern)
Much less success here...]

Or this one? [She is much more unhappy sounding at this last book (a Greenhill Academy Rune textbook) because she's had basically no success even figuring out what it is talking about other than it apparently deals with mythology and magic... things.]

Or, I also found the "Writings of Aurelius" next to those first two ones, but I'm not sure if it's got spells in it or not... [it feels ominous, actually... so she figured it might, but- inside it just looks like a bunch of horoscope type things as well as just some weird old school notes]

I'm looking for people who know these books and are willing to tutor me in what's within them. I expect answers ASAP; that is all. [A pause] Also, Leon, since when do you write textbooks? [And then the camera focuses on a book written by Leon DS Geeste on Symbology]

Here we go- [He tugs the bag from his pocket and tosses it her way, heading over to take a look at the books she has spread out. He's never actually tried spells from books like this, since his magic doesn't really work like that, so this is all new and very, very cool.] Colour changing spell, was it?

It's a type of glamour, so in theory it should fix all the senses, depending on what I try it on. I'm not sure though... [What to try on, mostly. Hmm]

Well, we're in a library. Pick a book?

[Irreverent as only a teenager can be. 8D]

Well duh, that's the dubious one, but the first thing I use should be something disposable.

[...] So unless you have a copy of Prime Minister Koizumi's biography handy, we should pick something else.

Sorry, fresh out of those.

[Hmm, what's a good alternative...]

Why not try it on a journal? Apparently they just come back if they get destroyed anyway, so it's not like it would be any big loss if something happens.

[...Oh, point. Well then, let's do it to her journal. It's right there and he sets this journal down and now goes to take the powder. ... she should look at the incantations again. Going to flip and read back in that book]

[He crosses his arms and leans on the table, watching her work curiously. He'll help if instructed, but she's the one who's done the research on this, so he does his best to just stay out of her way for the moment.]

[Okay... so now she dusts the power onto the journal, reciting the simply incantation. This is a really basic thing, but once that's done she blows the power off of it with a breath and-

The cover of the journal is now blue. Or looks blue to them. Excellent! She makes a pleased noise at her own success!]

[His response is, predictably, immediate and slightly over the top. He leans forward to stare in awe, a big, silly grin crossing his lips.]

Amazing- that's amazing! You did a spell!

[You'd think a kid who can bend reality at will would be less impressed, but this is Buffy magic brought to life here. How cool is that?]

Yeah, I did! [But now she's picking up the journal to examine it... it turns out only the front cover is blue, not all of all. Which means that the glamor in this version of the spell only works in what's touching the powder...?

[The elation hasn't worn off yet, but Billy peers over her shoulder to check the journal with her, puzzled.]

Was it supposed to do that?

Well according to this book, most glamours have a catalyst... like if you did it to a person, they would have something you'd hold on to. I guess in this case the powder was it and because the powder didn't touch the bottom it didn't work?

[Or she didn't have enough power. hmm]

I guess it really is something that just takes more practice. [Well, it makes sense. It took him forever to do anything right with his magic when he was just starting out.] Still, it's neat. Real magic!

Right, right?! It's great that we're able to work things like this here!

If you ever need more materials, just let me know, okay? I'll keep an eye out. I'd love to see more spells if you're going to keep this up.

You're surprisingly helpful for someone I just met. [Setting her journal down now, frowning somewhat suspiciously in spite of herself]

Well, why shouldn't I be? I had the materials, but not the spell book, and you had the book but not the spell. I got to see you do magic, so isn't that a fair trade?

[He's not too bothered by her suspicion; admittedly, his eagerness to get involved was kind of out-of-nowhere, but he doesn't care much after the fact.]

Putting it like that, your having the materials in the first place is suspicious. But you- ["look like I could take you in a fistfight." okay no] Well, whatever. It's convenient for me.

Hey, if you're sure. [He's not gonna complain. Or explain himself, unless he has to.] I should head back now, but if you ever feel like showing off, you know who to call.

Alright- [...] Nice meeting you, Billy.

You too, Haruhi. [Oh god he hopes he got that name right. He probably said it wrong. He's terrible with Asian names.
