Summer's drawing to a close already... we're already half-way through August, pretty much. There's really a lot of things left to do now, even if I wasn't really planning a lot... [A hum] I guess being made super old wasn't in my plans. [Old...] I'm actually twenty years old now, how weird is that? [Physically now, even, because of what happened on her birthday. Not that is will necessarily stand out to people] But anyway, seriously? There's submarining, bug catching, exploring some ancient ruins, spelunking, maybe going out on a date or something... Actually I'd like to spelunk! SOS-Brigade, assuming that we don't get a working submarine in two weeks, let's go explore some caverns!

-Right, that reminds me. I haven't been around for it, but this is Luceti so I'm sure bad things have happened. You're still trying to get Precis to help with it? I guess options must be pretty slim.

This Howard guy says he needs help, and Hiccup's MIA. If I can get around using her - Sokka and Hiccup and you - I will, but you said she's good, right?

She's good -- really good. I know she's very capable when there's actually material available. But she's not just going to make something because you asked her to.

So this is where you tell me how I convince her, obviously! Come on Leon, keep up with the program!

You think I have any luck in convincing her? [Well, he does. But that's because they're actually friends. ...Rivalry also had its good points, at times.] Bartering would probably work, but I doubt there's much you can trade her a submarine for.

Only the slot machines and magic, neither of which are good. But as for your benefits, you're housemates or something, right? You obviously have more pull than me.

I don't think I could convince her a submarine is in her best interests. The only other thing I can think of is getting her a 'reward' from the Malnosso missions. If they're willing to supply gears and actual mechanical parts. [But he's not actually sure about that.]

I've got like twenty points, so that wouldn't actually be hard. But she's been doing a lot of missions herself, hasn't she? I feel like I've heard that much of her.

...So you can make unlimited air?

She's been on missions, yeah. But that's really what would appeal to her -- something solid and mechanical that she can tinker with. [Because that's what Precis liked to do -- tinker.]

With the right work on a symbol, I can keep the air in the submarine breathable, yeah. It won't be unlimited, because it'll take some of my energy to convert the expired air back into its original state. If I wasn't me, it might be somewhat dangerous.

No doubt! Well, that secures you a place on the crew but make sure to tell the guy building it about this, so we don't get some confusion where he's making redundant air tanks. And you can make sure the air tanks don't serve some other purpose like buoyancy or something.

Well, it depends on what the dude decides he needs to provide buoyancy, but I'll talk to him. Who exactly is this guy, anyway?

Howard Stark, now idea if he's related to that Iron Man weirdo or not.

Huh. [A surname like that hasn't come up before, at least.] Well, as long as he knows how a submarine functions...

I think he's from Earth's Cold War era or something because he was going on about Russia and United States subs. So he's got a lot of older designs in mind ... I guess ... but he seems to be on the level.

Cold War? Different from Earth's World War II, right? [Ancient Earth history isn't something he studied up on that much.]

Huh-? Oh, yeah. World War II was this big massive war which lasted six years, the Cold War's this big collection of a lot of smaller wars that lasted more like fifty years right after it. Those "small" wars usually didn't have armed conflicts directly between the two big people involved - America and the Soviets. But it was really tense for everyone because both of those superpowers had unreasonably big nuclear arsenals. It ended just around the time I was born.

So more like a period of tiptoeing around while always trying to have the bigger gun to point at the other. Got it.

Yeah, exactly. Though they also fought in other ways, mercifully. Like who could get into space first.

Well, no way to improve technology than through competition and war.

Sadly, that is a trend on Earth. On Expel too?

We have an arms tournament every year back in my home kingdom; all the different arms merchants sponsor fighters and win a lot of publicity for superior products.

...And then there were the demons. That pushed weapon development into overdrive.

Demons? Yeah, I imagine demons would help spur everyone on.

Yeah. Not that it worked. [Haaahaha. For all of the effort they had put into it, the Lacour Hope wasn't able to fulfill its goal in stopping the demon hordes coming out of the Sorcery Globe.]

Anyway, I'll talk to Mr. Stark at some point. We'll work something out.
