5th: The Contamination of Haruhi Suzumiya

So everyone, Valentines is supposed to be about love and stuff, right? But have you ever thought what's up with that Saint Valentine guy who originated the holiday?! Given that it's still popular today, is he just some famous dead guy, or is he now a ghost, trying to appeal to everyone's mind and manipulate them?! Wouldn't that explain how it's popular in both Japan and the West?

Bearing that in mind, even if this holiday is kinda stupid, it's still important to adhere to certain traditions in hopes of seeing any possible Valentines spirits. Because of that, I've gotten chocolate for some of you.

[...Namely all of the guys in the Brigade and grudgingly Minato. She considered some others, like Neku or Sokka, but decided against it. She also considered Winry but she's not sure if that's too weird or not. That said, delivering them? No, she's carrying them around in her bag in case she runs into people for other reasons and failing that going to put what's left in a basket at the HQ after she's done.]

More importantly-! A bunch of you have heard about the beach, right?! And you're all psyched to go there this summer?! Well, brought to you by our SOS-Brigade's genius scientist, Leon [this next part is muttered quickly and might not be heard:] andsomehelpfromSokka we're bringing you the all-new Beach Teleportation System! You know how the ones for the Hot Springs work, right?! Same thing here! The village-end for the teleporter is located in the barracks, and the other end is way off, so we can have easy access once it warms up!

I put aside a time - for you - tonight, and now you're saying that isn't good enough?! What sort of dumbasses are you?! In fact- [And now she turns to glare at Minato specifically] You know I'm Shiki's only safety net.

[That actually leaves him without a reply. She's right - Shiki was probably having the worst time today and been too preoccupied goofing off with Keiichi to even remember that.

Good job Haruhi, you shamed him and ruined the mood in one stroke.]

[Keiichi knows nothing of what's going on with Shiki, but hearing that doesn't sit well with him. For many reasons. So the smile drops to a serious expression and he's pushing the basket he was holding into Haruhi's arms.]

We thought of giving you a surprise, but it seems that we're the ones who aren't good enough for you. Whatever go and take Shiki to the picnic if she's having problems. And to anything else you can think of, because whatever is giving her trouble will probably still be there tonight and nights are the hardest time of the day to be alone. Even if you seem to think that it's okay to leave her alone then and not now.

[He can't tell why he's more annoyed, over their mood being ruined or over the idea of Shiki being left alone to deal with whatever she was suffering during the night. He knows that the nights are the worst, during the day there are many people around, many ways to distract oneself, during the night he only had Haruki and he assumes Shiki's in the same situation. Anyway he has no plans to stay so he turns to leave it's clear that today isn't a good day to do anything special.]

[Wha-] That fast-? Hey- what!

[Frowning, distraught that her excuse worked that well, she reaches out... for what? To grab their shoulder? slap them? she's not rightfully sure]

[well, what did she expect really? Minato has started to leave along with Keiichi but when she reaches out for them he turns back slightly]

You're right, Haruhi. She needs you today.

Maybe we can do something when she feels better.

[Keiichi doesn't stop, nor turns. If Shikki's having problems then she definitively needs Haruhi and Haruhi should be with her rather than fooling around. It annoys him, of course, he wanted to spend time with her and Minato but... Priorities. And it annoys him far more than it flatters him to think that Haruhi made time for them at night, as nights are a specially hard time to be alone.]

Don't- hey- [...!!]

[And cue her reaching out and grabbing both of them from the backs of their collars, looking genuinely confused and more than a little pissed off]

Don't be stupid! Look, I was going to go check in on her now so I could be with you later! Worst comes to worst I can get Mitsuru [after all, they had... that thing... that one time. ...Which is still weird because how did that happen but whatever] to look after her for the night and-

And no one said you two were dismissed!

[If he wanted he could easily break away from her grip but that's not worth it. Instead he stops. For whatever reason, Haruhi seems desperate to keep them now even after telling them to go away. There's really only one way to keep the situation from getting worse.]

Then let's all go.

[As much as he'd rather not keep fighting with Haruhi he's really mostly concerned about Shiki. Even if they separated now, he was going to call her, so this could be the best path.]

[Keiichi wasn't going to call Shiki, he doesn't know what's the problem and doesn't want to be insensitive by asking randomly or mess up somehow at trying to show concern. He's almost tempted to tell them to go alone to see her, but he's worried after all and even if he knows nothing he can't mess up if they are there, right? He will just let them do the talking and such.]

Sounds fine with me. Unless Haru-chan wanted to do it all alone...

...Seriously? You want to come with?

[She even lets go of their collars, so surprised is she]

[...why are you surprised.] She's our friend too.

You won't think you're the only one who can be concerned about her, right?

Well, yeah, I mean... I guess that makes sense.

[well at least the mood softened again.]

[Even if she seems still reluctant or something. What the hell is wrong with you now, Haruhi? Anyway, Keiichi's on the lead, as he has nothing to say and instead choses to keep moving. You two coming, right? Let's go see the heart-broken Shiki. Or something.]

[Shiki? Oh, Shiki's not heart-broken. She was earlier, but she's had a change of heart. Earlier in the day she had gone to Kat's Kradle with the full intent of telling off Joshua, maybe winning Neku back for herself. Instead, by the time she got there she ended up sharing her chocolate with both boys and agreeing to stay at Kat's Kradle with them for a while longer.

That being said, by the time the trio gets back to house 10 to check in on her, she's flitting around the place collecting things in a bag to take back, Mr. Mew in her arms. Actually, she seems blissfully unaware that anybody's even stopped by.]

[You know this is not in any way what Haruhi expected to see when she crossed the threshold into her house. Shiki flicking around like an overhappy bat, that is. Thus, when she first gets in here she blinks slowly before-]

Hey, what're you doing?

[And Minato is.... fairly confused too. Either something good happened or Shiki's learned to enjoy the single life. He's not sure which is more likely.]

[You know, she seems quite happy for someone who needs a safety net... But both Minato and Haruhi had seemed sincerely worried and thinking that she was having problems so Keiichi just stares and whispers to Minato.]

Maybe it's a reaction of shock or denial?

[Without really knowing the problem this is the most he can think of.]

[Annnd stopping, turning to look at the trio there. With a wave, she barely stops as she throws a pillow into her bag as well.]

I'm getting ready to go. I'm packing just in case I don't come home tonight. The boys are waiting for me back at Mr. H's cafe. [She turns to acknowledge the two boys then. She had chocolate for them, but it's up for debate whether they've been delivered already or not.]

What're you guys doing here?

[...What the hell. The boys? And Mr. H... she runs a play-through in her mind. What are the likely options? Well, there's- ... Neku is the only obvious conclusion but the other one. Could it be- No it can't be him because apart from making no sense that's just gross

And won't come... home...

Some protective instinct in Haruhi flairs and she folds her arms immediately here, her eyes narrowing

[Minato is confused too, trying to figure out who Shiki might label "the boys." Still it's... good she's getting out of the house? But then Haruhi speaks up and puts a worse twist on the situation.]

We came to check on you.

[Hearing Haruhi's comment about a "break up", Keiichi can start to piece what the problem is. Except that now instead of a boyfriend she's talking about several boys.

She used a plural, Haruhi. Wouldn't that mean she's going to jump several guys? Anyway, gangbang isn't the answer to a break up.

Probably not the best thing to say so, here's Keiichi, line-facing and holding back his comments for now.]
