21st: The Revolution of Haruhi Suzumiya

Okay! Everyone in Luceti more or less stable from that last experiment? Good! Maybe you're not, but we're done with all the apologies and public fallout right, right? And most of the new feathers are in by now.

Well, I'm here today to inform you about the details of a group you guys might not be super familiar with if you're new and might have some misconceptions about if you're not. That's right, I'm here to talk to you about the one and only SOS-Brigade, and what our new and revised Brigade system will be bringing to you guys. That's right, revel in our generosity, because starting now the SOS-Brigade is pooling its talent to more than every be the leg Luceti stands on!

[First things first, put up to the journal's camera is an image of the Brigade's symbol. One that many might find familiar- it's spray-painted onto the sign for the Brigade HQ in the main plaza of town.]

So what is the SOS-Brigade, you guys might wonder? Well, normally, I'd suggest you were living under a rock because we are in the guide, and are Luceti's premiere group of anything related to entertainment over the years and did just put on a wildly successful Equinox festival, but that's actually be a question I've been asking myself lately. "What is the SOS-Brigade here in Luceti?" The Brigade was originally founded back on Earth to solve the mysteries of this world, and we still do that here! But here, a lot of those mysteries just make things more complicated and tiresome and bad - they don't do anything to live up to the name "Spreading Excitement All Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade."

So! You want to know what we're about? Well, here's our new mission statement: "To ensure that everyone in Luceti experiences a worthwhile life. The SOS-Brigade will be there to support troubled people in whatever capacity they need to be assisted."

That's right! As of now, we're answering the SOS-es [Haha, she picks up tempo here, amused at her own pun] of the people in this village and setting out to solve their problems! Got love issues, come to us! Got problems with a friend? Come to us! Need friends? Us too! Anything and everything you might need support in we can either provide, or refer you to someone else... who, you know, is better suited for it. [...] Which isn't a lot of things, we're pretty talented!

But the point is, yes, the Brigade is about parties and events and game nights, but more than that, people, it's about people, right? The world can't overflow with fun and be saved with good cheer unless everyone's problems are solved! So come to us with a problem, we'll work it out! Just stop by our HQ and any member of my SOS-Brigade will be more than happy to work with you, and we can then work with, well, you! So that's how it is, answering the SOS of troubled people and ensuring that they actually can have fun here to some extent.

So you hear that Luceti, stop by! ..Also, because of these changes, we're also recruiting! Any potential applicants or people who need a life coach or something, speak up and we'll consider you for being welcomed into the fold.

O...kay. Changes are out in the open now. Sorry, sorry, kept it under wraps until now. In light of the changes I'm asking for a sound off of everyone who isn't Leon, Keiichi, or Ayumu to speak up so I know if you're still with us for our new image. It might be a bit more demanding, yeah, but things which are rewarding usually are and we'll still have fun with it, promise! Once I know who's doing what, I'll also be appointing our new Vice-Chief and Deputy by the end of the week.

[And then he goes on. She blushes. She hangs her head, but smiles to herself, nodding. Okay... sure. Yeah, so it'll work out in the end, right? Yes, it'll work out perfectly okay and she'll be able to accomplish what she wants to accomplish with this upgrade for the Brigade. Excellent. But that doesn't distract from-]

Well of course you guys are coming with! ... If you want. Yeah. ...If everyone else wants. You're coming either way.

[He laughs.]

So that's what that list means, yeah, I'm cool with that. You know you can drag me anywhere you want.

[He pauses for a second.]

The only thing I don't like is... Well, you could have dropped the bomb on us first at a meeting rather than have us learn about it together with the rest of the village. Though I suppose that this way if anyone doesn't want to come it'll be easier to deal with them leaving.

[Like she wouldn't have to watch them leave the building knowing they wouldn't return or something like that. Haruhi probably wouldn't like that, or be able to deal with it well. With this if things get hard... All she has to do is slam the journal shut.]

Tha-that wasn't the reason! It was a surprise, a surprise! And to be that, it needs to be secret even from the ones you aren't actively surprising, because if it leaks out it'll just mess everything up! It's a re-imaging process, way more complex than you could comprehend, Keiichi!

[And that sounds like a re-imaging process of an excuse.]

You could have told us and immediately after make the announcement. And it would have been a surprise either way.

[At least she didn't word it in a way that would make people realize that the rest of the Brigade had no idea about this. Now that would give a bad image... Hopefully no one can crack that filter.]

Anyway, it doesn't really matter now, does it?

No, I guess not. Not really.

[ ... ] But yeah, things are going to be a little difficult for a while, probably. The image of the Brigade is currently in danger and we need to assert it's dominance and relevance. I'll be counting on you.

Don't look at me, I've never lost a chance to try to lure people to be interested in joining when I thought you would approve of them. Not my fault no one has accepted yet, not everyone can get away with dragging people around for their own best like a mother would.

[He just seems to have bad luck at recruiting, or maybe it's because he prefers it if they go to Haruhi rather than him having to go and be the meeting link. With all the effort she puts in advertising and recruiting he just feels it would be better if more people got into the village that way. Would also avoid conflict of 'he said you're fine but I don't like you' or whatever.]

[She really only hears one part of that and flushing a bit, she points at the book dramatically, confused and also a little disturbed]

H-hey! Are you calling me motherly or something?

Would you prefer me to call you fatherly? You're the leader, the head of the Brigade, you order us around and care about us. Isn't that what you do? Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.

[Raising his hands, he won't tell, really. Miss 'forming a stable family unit takes work'.]

Shut up! That's just... standard leader stuff! That's nothing like being a mother, right? Right! Of course!

[You would be a great mother, Haruhi. Eccentric but great. Should he voice that thought? Nah, it's probably best if he doesn't.]

Fine, then you're very leaderly. Better?

[He could have teased her more, but... It's better this way, he shouldn't even have started it, but he slipped, it was hard not to after being bluntly honest. Fortunately this is a graceful way to back off without it being noticed.]

Me? No, that's why I ask. And I thought maybe it was you the one who has more important things to do, I was just trying to help.

[He really has nothing else to do, but he sounds distant either way. Not hurried or distracted, but not entirely there, which is a stark contrast with how normal he sounded seconds before.]

[His voice is suddenly empty, there's no reaction in that word even if he asks it in a way that should be surprised or confused. It's mostly as if he's just plainly repeating the word, forcing it to sound like a question at the end of it. Weird. As if she would notice when he's being weird, she won't notice right? She hasn't noticed it at all, it's not as if he has been avoiding her openly or anything. Minato only noticed it because of that thing with his links, otherwise he is sure they would have been fine, just as always.

Maybe she's just saying that because she's surprised at him being so ready to help or something? Keiichi laughs, though his voice still has a distant echo as he forces it out.]

What are you saying? Is your journal broken or have you got used to hear me talk like a bear? That may be it, maybe that's why I sound 'weird'.

[She would let it drop but as always Maebara pushes things a bit too much and now she just feels a nagging suspicion for... no good reason]
