31st: The Spells of Haruhi Suzumiya

[Voice / Action for the library]

[For the last 20some days, Haruhi Suzumiya has been obsessively studying. While she slowed down some after the Cultural Fair, it still was a very, very welcome distraction from thinking about how much she was hurt by that break up. Which is why she's been in and our of the library a lot. Finally though today she has decided to prop open the journal and ask for help.]

Hey, Luceti, does anyone recognize these?

[And she moves the journal to focus on:
* Helios's universe basic spellbook
* Basic Buffyverse spellbook (possibly this one or this one)
Lined up next to each other. these are the two she's had the most success with so far... she even more or less mastered one of the spells in the first one.]

Or these?

[And now it focuses on:
* Touhou Grimoire
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Western)
* CLAMP universe magic tome (Eastern)
Much less success here...]

Or this one? [She is much more unhappy sounding at this last book (a Greenhill Academy Rune textbook) because she's had basically no success even figuring out what it is talking about other than it apparently deals with mythology and magic... things.]

Or, I also found the "Writings of Aurelius" next to those first two ones, but I'm not sure if it's got spells in it or not... [it feels ominous, actually... so she figured it might, but- inside it just looks like a bunch of horoscope type things as well as just some weird old school notes]

I'm looking for people who know these books and are willing to tutor me in what's within them. I expect answers ASAP; that is all. [A pause] Also, Leon, since when do you write textbooks? [And then the camera focuses on a book written by Leon DS Geeste on Symbology]

Yeah, but I'm sure most of the Lovecraft type people who mess with magic and stuff think they're on top of it too.

Well, that hardly means it isn't dangerous.

Why, exactly, do you want to? If it isn't broken, leave well enough alone. Or there'll be too many cooks in the kitchen.

Because I'm sick of being powerless! I don't care if you're content to just roll around with things when they punch you in the face here, I am not! And if that means I'm learning magic, then it means I'm learning magic!

[...And Winry broke up with her and she's still not okay from that and it sucks. And she knows Kyon's concerns probably don't merit that sort of explosion, but she's too frustrated to really care right now and thus slams her book shut and faceplants herself onto the table in the library she was sitting at.

...Maybe she should be direct with him, she said she would.

...Well, another in the proud tradition of little Kyon crises, huh? Koizumi'd have my head for this one. Why should I feel bad, though?! It's not like I did anything wrong. I mean, come on. It's not like...'

But one can feel bad just because one pisses off one's friend.

'So I guess I'll go roll around after that punch in the face.']

[...Sigh. Okay. SIGH. She can do this-]

Meet me at the HQ?

[...Not because she feels bad or anything (maybe she does, a little), but because she said she would talk to him if things were bothering her. Even if this is... way long after the fact]

[Which jolts him out of a nice nap he was taking on top of the journal.

He takes a second to get his bearings -- she might hear a stupid-sounding "whuh?" -- before figuring out what was said, and then, quickly:]

Right-- I'll be there.

['Okay, come on, let's try not to be late.']

[voice]

[But of course she will be there first at least. Not in the back room though, she's sitting here on the chairs in the front room to the left of the entrance. And she waves him over when he comes in]

[He sits down in a chair by her, too, with an appropriately serious ('Some might say blank and stupid, but we all know who that is.') expression on his face.']

Yo, Haruhi.

[voice]

Hey.

[...No she doesn't feel like starting right off with no hesitation after all, sigh]

['Haruhi's head is in this position again, huh? Here we go.']

Was your day at the library okay?

[voice]

It was fine, I guess.

[...] Winry dumped me. It's been about twenty days.

[voice]

['Of course, she told me that herself. But it's definitely sobering to hear it again from Haruhi like that.']

Ah... Right. I'm sorry. How are you feeling?

Pissed off? [...No, that was just a good fallback] Sad? I don't know, you're supposed to be eating ice cream by pints like this, right?

[Stupid movie cliches. She snorts, mocking her own sappiness]

I don't think it matters what you're supposed to do, Haruhi. Just feel like what you really want to feel like. It won't be bad.

I really want to- [...To something. The anger is a front and she's well aware of that by now] I want to be okay with her]

...That's good, Haruhi. So what do you think that'll take?

I don't know. I thought it'd be better when I saw her at the cultural festival.
