5th: The Contamination of Haruhi Suzumiya

So everyone, Valentines is supposed to be about love and stuff, right? But have you ever thought what's up with that Saint Valentine guy who originated the holiday?! Given that it's still popular today, is he just some famous dead guy, or is he now a ghost, trying to appeal to everyone's mind and manipulate them?! Wouldn't that explain how it's popular in both Japan and the West?

Bearing that in mind, even if this holiday is kinda stupid, it's still important to adhere to certain traditions in hopes of seeing any possible Valentines spirits. Because of that, I've gotten chocolate for some of you.

[...Namely all of the guys in the Brigade and grudgingly Minato. She considered some others, like Neku or Sokka, but decided against it. She also considered Winry but she's not sure if that's too weird or not. That said, delivering them? No, she's carrying them around in her bag in case she runs into people for other reasons and failing that going to put what's left in a basket at the HQ after she's done.]

More importantly-! A bunch of you have heard about the beach, right?! And you're all psyched to go there this summer?! Well, brought to you by our SOS-Brigade's genius scientist, Leon [this next part is muttered quickly and might not be heard:] andsomehelpfromSokka we're bringing you the all-new Beach Teleportation System! You know how the ones for the Hot Springs work, right?! Same thing here! The village-end for the teleporter is located in the barracks, and the other end is way off, so we can have easy access once it warms up!

[The positive part is that he honestly doesn't realize that it means that he's in love with her. The negative part is that... Well, he doesn't realize it means that he's in love with her.]

Haruhi is complicated. She's obnoxious and demanding... but also has moments of being surprisingly thoughtful, even sweet. But overall... if he considers his own feelings, even the bad parts are what make her interesting to be around.]

[Not really, but he hoped it was like that. 'Cause if not he may have to have to choose between spending time with one or the other and he doesn't want that. He prefers it when it's the three of them.]

Wait, does that mean that she got angry because she thought I was saying she wasn't a girl?

I think so. [Or at least it's what drove her out at the end.]

Ugh... No wonder she was angry. How could I make it up for her?

We could bring a picnic to the beach... [although it would be him cooking. But food would probably placate her still.]

You would have to cook it then, or I will poison her or burn a house, probably.

Why don't we make something together? [anyone can cook if they try, K-1. Even Fuuka could.] I'll give pointers.

Okay so her intention is, of course, to go to the barracks that night. But because Winry for lunch and plans for the Brigade that afternoon... well, it's a surprisingly busy day all things considered. You going to kidnap her? You might get a chance as she's coming out of the Brigade room after he last vain getting of the chocolate for people to them and...

[She won't be getting too far, because there's a pair of guys standing either side of the door waiting for her to emerge. You're surrounded, Haruhi.]

[That actually leaves him without a reply. She's right - Shiki was probably having the worst time today and been too preoccupied goofing off with Keiichi to even remember that.

Good job Haruhi, you shamed him and ruined the mood in one stroke.]

[Keiichi knows nothing of what's going on with Shiki, but hearing that doesn't sit well with him. For many reasons. So the smile drops to a serious expression and he's pushing the basket he was holding into Haruhi's arms.]

We thought of giving you a surprise, but it seems that we're the ones who aren't good enough for you. Whatever go and take Shiki to the picnic if she's having problems. And to anything else you can think of, because whatever is giving her trouble will probably still be there tonight and nights are the hardest time of the day to be alone. Even if you seem to think that it's okay to leave her alone then and not now.

[He can't tell why he's more annoyed, over their mood being ruined or over the idea of Shiki being left alone to deal with whatever she was suffering during the night. He knows that the nights are the worst, during the day there are many people around, many ways to distract oneself, during the night he only had Haruki and he assumes Shiki's in the same situation. Anyway he has no plans to stay so he turns to leave it's clear that today isn't a good day to do anything special.]
