5th: The Contamination of Haruhi Suzumiya

So everyone, Valentines is supposed to be about love and stuff, right? But have you ever thought what's up with that Saint Valentine guy who originated the holiday?! Given that it's still popular today, is he just some famous dead guy, or is he now a ghost, trying to appeal to everyone's mind and manipulate them?! Wouldn't that explain how it's popular in both Japan and the West?

Bearing that in mind, even if this holiday is kinda stupid, it's still important to adhere to certain traditions in hopes of seeing any possible Valentines spirits. Because of that, I've gotten chocolate for some of you.

[...Namely all of the guys in the Brigade and grudgingly Minato. She considered some others, like Neku or Sokka, but decided against it. She also considered Winry but she's not sure if that's too weird or not. That said, delivering them? No, she's carrying them around in her bag in case she runs into people for other reasons and failing that going to put what's left in a basket at the HQ after she's done.]

More importantly-! A bunch of you have heard about the beach, right?! And you're all psyched to go there this summer?! You know how the ones for the Hot Springs work, right?! Same thing here! The village-end for the teleporter is located in the barracks, and the other end is way off, so we can have easy access once it warms up!

[Him and a dozen of other people. Why doesn't it cheer him up? He really is in less and less mood to go to school and do all those things he would do usually. Isn't this day supposed to be special?]

But she talked about the spirit of Valentine and such, and she's constantly wanting to investigate those things and find "unusual" things. Maybe we could convince her to send everyone to try to find traces of the spirit or something and we take her with us. Or if we tell her we found something... But she would get angry if she comes with us and leaves the Brigade and we have nothing for her.

["Take her with us", it's how "kidnap her" was said in the 80s.]

What if we plan something she'd like?

That may work, but... What could it be? I suppose you won't have a Valentine's related Persona-thing in there, right?

Pretend it's the ghost?

Nah, she would catch on that probably. But maybe she would be interested in seeing it or something and come up with ideas that relate it to the Valentine's spirit and such.

...I don't think she likes them very much.

[and neither do you, Keiichi. That's a little bit disheartening, you know.]

Why not? Well, sure, the way you call them isn't the best of the world and I don't like the sight of you pointing a gun to your head. But the Personas themselves aren't that bad, and they can be useful... And dangerous but you wouldn't use them for that.

[Besides, they are part of who Minato is, right? So there's really thing bad in them... Except for the gun-like thing.]

[hearing Keiichi is okay with it now actually improves his mood a little.] Well, it's one idea.

Maybe we should just go and take her with us without accepting a no. It's not as if she wouldn't do it if it was the other way around.

Not really. I still don't get why exactly she got angry and I've been pretty much doghouse'd at the Brigade since then so I thought it was a bad idea to ask while she still was angry. She seemed in a better mood today though, but I don't want to ask, I'll just be careful.

No, I didn't. I said the same thing as before, she's Haruhi, she's not like any other girl, she's her own category because the others aren't good enough to get to her. I didn't mean it as in that she doesn't look like a girl or isn't a girl, she's just... Above them all, comparing her with the others isn't fair at all as the others don't stand a chance at all!

[...That's pretty heartfelt, and it makes Minato stop for a moment. You said you weren't in love with her, Keiichi...]

Haruhi is complicated. She's obnoxious and demanding... but also has moments of being surprisingly thoughtful, even sweet. But overall... if he considers his own feelings, even the bad parts are what make her interesting to be around.]

[Not really, but he hoped it was like that. 'Cause if not he may have to have to choose between spending time with one or the other and he doesn't want that. He prefers it when it's the three of them.]
