5th: The Contamination of Haruhi Suzumiya

So everyone, Valentines is supposed to be about love and stuff, right? But have you ever thought what's up with that Saint Valentine guy who originated the holiday?! Given that it's still popular today, is he just some famous dead guy, or is he now a ghost, trying to appeal to everyone's mind and manipulate them?! Wouldn't that explain how it's popular in both Japan and the West?

Bearing that in mind, even if this holiday is kinda stupid, it's still important to adhere to certain traditions in hopes of seeing any possible Valentines spirits. Because of that, I've gotten chocolate for some of you.

[...Namely all of the guys in the Brigade and grudgingly Minato. She considered some others, like Neku or Sokka, but decided against it. She also considered Winry but she's not sure if that's too weird or not. That said, delivering them? No, she's carrying them around in her bag in case she runs into people for other reasons and failing that going to put what's left in a basket at the HQ after she's done.]

More importantly-! A bunch of you have heard about the beach, right?! And you're all psyched to go there this summer?! You know how the ones for the Hot Springs work, right?! Same thing here! The village-end for the teleporter is located in the barracks, and the other end is way off, so we can have easy access once it warms up!

[What kind of question is that? Sounds as if someone is expecting tons of chocolates. Personally Keiichi only assumes he will get from his girls, maybe Minako too, nothing more.]

[High hopes don't mean unrealistic hopes. Keiichi may be many things but he doesn't believe himself to be a heart-breaker or a guy that attracts much interest from the opposite gender. Even if some people have told him otherwise and that he can be quite charming when he drops the perverted stuff.]

That's a good way to start the day, isn't it? Chocolates even before the day officially starts.

[Why do you have to attract so many girls anyway? He digs in one of his pockets casually and pulls out a small chocolate, that he leaves on the table besides Minato.]

[Minato is more expecting them from friends. As much as it would be nice, he doubts anyone here now is planning to give anything besides obligation chocolates.

...and what are you doing, Keiichi. He just eyes the chocolate for a minute.] ...Me?

[All casual and calm. It's just a chocolate, man, it's not even handmade because that would give you food poisoning.]

[...well, there's no need to make a big deal of it, right? It is just chocolate, from a friend.

So he palms it. It's warm and slightly melted, you really shouldn't put chocolate in your pocket man....]

[He kept it at the fridge up until coming over. Not his fault if the chocolate couldn't stand it a bit.]

It's Valentines. Minako will tease if we don't.

[...not that anything Minako would say would really be a big deal, and also he's assuming Keiichi wants to skip together. It feels a little like a poor excuse.]

[He didn't complain at the moment but musing it isn't good. Why the night? Why not the afternoon?]

[just asking her to clear her schedule would be too smothering anyway...]

Right, the Brigade... At least I have that too.

[Him and a dozen of other people. Why doesn't it cheer him up? He really is in less and less mood to go to school and do all those things he would do usually. Isn't this day supposed to be special?]

[he's never had any urge to join the Brigade before, but it might be nice to be around Haruhi and Keiichi every afternoon...

[The extra people aren't annoying most of the time but... Sometimes they are too many indeed.]

Well, it's the Brigade, she loves it.

[Wouldn't it be nice if she loved them more than her Brigade? But Keiichi isn't that crazy.]

But she talked about the spirit of Valentine and such, and she's constantly wanting to investigate those things and find "unusual" things. Maybe we could convince her to send everyone to try to find traces of the spirit or something and we take her with us. Or if we tell her we found something... But she would get angry if she comes with us and leaves the Brigade and we have nothing for her.

["Take her with us", it's how "kidnap her" was said in the 80s.]
